Hot New Hair Styles For Fall
While summer is on its way out, the fall season is ushering in soft new looks that are flowing, natural and feminine. The focus is on easy-to-manage, classy styles, and rich natural color, instead of ultra-styled, extreme treated hair. Don't spend time fighting your straight or curly texture, let your hair's natural tendencies shine through. Brick House Retreat Education Director, Jennifer Steadman shares her best advice on how to achieve fall's hot new looks at home. Natural Beauty
Dry hair naturally and to give it a welcome break from heat styling. The secret to this look's success is to give it a little help, in the form of hair product, that will minimize the negatives of your hair's natural tendencies—i.e. oily or unmanageable. I usually make specific recommendations based on natural features and desired looks. For example, add a smoothing or volumizing product to wet hair such as the Thickening Spray from Bumble and Bumble or the Volum Activ from Kerastase, and then allow it to dry naturally. After it's dry, arrange with fingers, add a shine enhancing product, and go! Swept Away
Let your face be on full display this autumn by drawing your hair back into a gentle, not severe, ponytail or bun. A great look right now is a loose ponytail or updo, or pinning one section up, leaving the rest to hang loose. Get the look by drying your hair as normal, then sweeping it up into the desired style with a wide-toothed comb. Secure shorter hair sections with bobby pins, and don't worry about some pieces falling loose. The finishing touch: add a loose, long, ribbon to ponytails for an extra flash of feminine flair. Tips For Staying Hydrated
Keeping your skin and body hydrated in the fall and winter months is especially important in Utah with our high altitude and cold, dry weather. Here are some tips from Nataliya, the Spa Education Director at Brick House Retreat, to keep you hydrated and retain healthy, glowing skin as it gets colder outside:
  • Drink water frequently throughout the day. Internal hydration keeps skin cells plump and healthy as water also helps transport nutrients to skin cells, keeping them nourished.
  • If you are exercising outside in cooler weather, you may not feel as thirsty as you would during the summer; however, you can still become dehydrated.
  • If you are hiking, take plenty of water up to the mountains with you; dehydration can make altitude sickness worse.
  • Keep the thermostat as low as you feel comfortable, and use a humidifier next to your bed while you sleep to replenish moisture in the air. Central heating drains moisture out of the air and will make your skin dry if you are inside most of the day.
  • Keep baths and showers short and at a warm, not hot, temperature. Hot water drains moisture from the skin and can make it irritable."
